At the recent Saratoga Forum, we heard Verivend founder Rodney Reisdorf share his story of building a company from scratch to acquisition. His message was clear: success comes from solving real problems, not chasing vanity metrics. Verivend began serving a range of industries, but traction spread too thin. The turning point came when the team narrowed its focus to private capital, where outdated, manual processes for capital calls and distributions created friction and risk.
Solving Real Problems
By positioning itself as “Venmo for private capital,” Verivend transformed the way money moves between general partners and limited partners. Transactions that once relied on PDFs, emails and wire transfers became efficient, secure and frictionless. The result was faster closes, reduced fraud exposure and stronger relationships. Listening closely to customers, the company expanded beyond payments to include fundraising, onboarding and reporting, creating an end-to-end platform for investment managers.
Growth and Hard Choices
Rodney shared that growth required tough decisions. Verivend exited non-core markets to go deep where the value was highest. That discipline, combined with a focus on customer outcomes, fueled adoption. Today, more than 200 investment sponsors and GPs have used Verivend to run thousands of investment vehicles and process billions in transactions.
A Strategic Fit
The company’s focus and traction ultimately led to its acquisition by iAltA. The match worked because of a shared vision, proven industry expertise and a commitment to keeping roots in Upstate New York. Rather than slowing momentum, the acquisition accelerated Verivend’s mission while expanding its reach and resources.
Our Takeaway
Rodney’s journey reinforced a simple truth: clarity beats activity. Focusing on customers, solving core problems and building trust through secure execution are the cornerstones of long-term success. For more on Rodney’s speech, please click the video below:
