Over 130 people came together in-person and online for Upstate Capital’s event, Invest NY: Health on March 3, 2022 at the Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences at the University of Buffalo. Upstate Capital members can access all the content videos here.

The Invest NY program, sponsored by NYSTAR and produced by Upstate Capital, is a series of events designed to highlight innovation in a variety of industries across New York. Our aim is to connect investors with startups to facilitate access to capital for early-stage companies. Through our speakers and panels, we provide insights for entrepreneurs on how investors see their industries and do their work.

This event would not have been possible without our event sponsors and partners: NYSTAR, The University of Buffalo, Medtech Association, Western New York Impact Investment Fund, KeyBank Healthcare, Central New York Biotech Accelerator, 43North and Excell Partners

The program began with over 20 companies that are innovating in the health space in New York. You can see all the startups and their pitches here

Next, we had Win Thurlow, the Executive Director of the Medtech Association moderate a panel with Kathi Durdon of CNYBAC, Jordan Taylor Sloan of NYSTAR, Norma Nowak from University of Buffalo, Lorenzo D’Amico of Triton Bio and Richard Uhlig of Quadrant Biosciences to talk about the resources available in our area and first-hand experience from entrepreneurs who have taken advantage of them.

Melissa Bime, CEO at Infiuss Health, and Maura Devlin of 43 North joined us to chat about growing Infiuss Health in Buffalo.

Our next panel included Michelle Bonn, CEO of Compliance Team; Kevin Lawson, President and CEO at KSL Diagnostics; Tom Quinn, CEO of Western New York Impact Investment Fund; Jennifer Tegan, Managing Director of NY Ventures at Empire State Development; and our conversation moderator, Anthony Magnano, the Senior Vice President of KeyBank’s Healthcare Division. They talked about how investors and entrepreneurs are seeing their businesses and industries change through the pandemic.

Finally, we heard a great conversation about Empire Discovery Institute’s partnership with Novo Nordisk with EDI’s CEO, Martin Graham and the VP of Novo Nordisk’s Bio-Innovation Hub in Boston, Uli Stilz. The conversation was moderated by Theresa Mazzullo, the CEO and Fund Manager of Excell Partners.

After the content, guests enjoyed networking during the reception sponsored by MedTech Association. Check out the event photos here!
