At The Saratoga Forum, tech entrepreneur Abe Sultan shared his journey from founding startups to successfully selling two companies. Originally from Venezuela and a graduate of RPI, Sultan emphasized how his background in platform development and the strategic use of AI were key factors in scaling his businesses.
In his first venture, Sultan built a cloud-based platform for large enterprises, raising $65 million in venture funding before selling the company in 2018. His second company, a consulting firm focused on helping businesses develop their own platforms, experienced significant growth, even during the pandemic. Sultan ultimately sold this firm to Ernst & Young (EY) in 2023.
Abe explained that leveraging AI for both product development and customer service transformed his businesses. For instance, his team incorporated AI to help streamline DMV services, enabling citizens to digitally submit and process documents, reducing the burden on state employees. Sultan also highlighted his work in using AI for sentiment analysis, which helped agencies better understand public feedback and make data-driven improvements.
Sultan’s success caught the attention of EY, which acquired his consulting firm after realizing how artificial intelligence could disrupt their own industry, particularly in auditing and risk assessment. Sultan’s story underscores the potential of AI as a tool for driving innovation, improving efficiency, and fostering business growth.
Sultan believes AI will continue to reshape industries and advises both investors and entrepreneurs to embrace AI’s capabilities for staying competitive in the evolving business landscape.
