On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, more than 120 investment and industry professionals gathered in Warwick, NY, at UrbanXtracts. Entrepreneurs showcased their businesses and industry professionals made valuable connections. The event programming provided valuable insights from leading industry professionals, including investors, regulators, and entrepreneurs.
The day began with lunch, networking, a startup showcase featuring startups, and tours of the UrbanXtracts facility, where attendees experienced the vertically integrated enterprise including the cultivation, processing, manufacturing, and distribution system of cannabis and hemp products.
The event program began after lunch with a conversation between Eran Sherin, CEO of UrbanXtracts, Mike Sweeton, Supervisor, Town of Warwick, Rebecca Brown, VP of Government Strategy, Green Thumb Industries, and moderator Bill Fioravanti, CEO at Orange County IDA. The power of vision, focus, and collaboration was clear as the 20+ year project that Sweeton embarked on to rebuild the economy in Warwick is now fully up and running.
Following their conversation, John Kagia, Director of Policy at the NYS Office of Cannabis Management took the stage to share insights into the regulatory policies of cannabis.
John Kagia stressed the importance of disclosing the true parties of interest. “The regulations won’t allow you to cross-pollinate tiers.”, defined as supply, retail, medical, and laboratories.
The final panel discussion of the day was between Mike Smith, Vice President at Delta Emerald, Tanisha Robinson, angel investor and Founder at W*nder, and moderator Lauren Rudick, Managing Principal at Rudick Law Group. Their conversation centered around opportunities in the industry for investors over the next few years.
The event wrapped with a networking reception followed by a farmer’s market at the UrbanXtracts facility.
