Recap: the 2019 State of Upstate
Last week, members of the business and entrepreneurial communities from across the region gathered in Buffalo to discuss economic trends and the outlook for 2019 at Upstate Capital’s State of Upstate. Upstate Capital members were invited to try to sport of curling through on-ice lessons from a group of expert volunteers who run the Buffalo Curling Club.
The program kicked off with Upstate Capital’s Board President, Randy Bianchi, sharing an overview of the organization. Then, several startup entrepreneurs gave lightning introductions to their businesses, including Graphenix Development, Patient Pattern, EMPEQ , K-Neesio LLC, 3AM Innovations, 2nd Life Batteries, Buffalo Automation and ShrubBucket.
Finally, our keynote speaker, Gary Keith, Vice President and Regional Economist at M&T Bank, spoke about the status of the Upstate NY economy. While upstate economic growth has lagged behind the national norm overall, metro regions of Buffalo, Albany and Ithaca have bucked this trend and performed much better than their upstate peers. Gary’s presentation examined the drivers behind this disparity and strategies for improving regional growth in the future.
Guests also enjoyed the opportunity to meet and build relationships with investors and business leaders from across the region through structured and unstructured networking. As always, we couldn’t host such events without our valued sponsors. Please join us in thanking Rand Capital and Lakelet Capital.
