Dave Helgerson: Invested in New York

Meet Dave: Managing Director and an Investment Committee Member at Hamilton Lane.  Dave leads direct investment activities focused on New York State investing including small business investing and lending and impact investing.  Dave is also a member of the Upstate Capital Board of Directors. Based in Bala Cynwyd, PA (Philadelphia area), he’s a business builder in the investment management industry. For him, “New York State has a ton to offer in terms of the business landscape: talented people, innovation and technology, and a strong history of building leading businesses.”

Dave loves his work. He finds value in “meeting with company owners and managers, learning about their businesses, and creating capital solutions to help them achieve their goals and support their companies.” Through supporting and participating with Upstate Capital; Dave finds “lots of camaraderie – It’s a lot of fun to work with the folks at Upstate Capital, which feels more like a team working together to deliver a set of diverse and independent yet overlapping goals.  We try to foster a capital ecosystem that can take a business from concept to market leader.”

Outside of work, Dave likes to spend time with his family; wife, Bethany, two sons, Teddy (12) and Peter (8), and their golden retriever, Lucy. They love the outdoors, including hiking, sailing, skiing, or fishing. Dave also brings his leadership skills to the baseball diamond; “I discovered a hidden talent last spring when I found myself coaching my son Peter’s baseball team to a league title. However, I am pretty sure that talent had a lot more to do with the players than the coach.”
